Tinajani Luxury Camp is Peru’s most remote property. Far removed from modern distractions, this secluded canyon—long revered by locals for its natural power—has been reborn as a soulful basecamp for highland adventure, cultural immersion, and mindful living. Once a working sheep farm, Tinajani’s 400 untouched acres now function as a private conservation area and immersive tented lodge, inviting guests to connect deeply with nature, heritage, and themselves.

A DESIGN ROOTED IN HERITAGE

The story of Tinajani Peru begins not with walls or furniture, but with family. Siblings Ignacio and Sandra Masias, visionaries behind the Andean brand, took inspiration from the original 19th-century farm to create a retreat that honors the land’s past while embracing the ideals of low-impact, sustainable travel.

The heart of Tinajani is the Casona, an adobe-and-thatch structure built in the 1890s and lovingly restored to maintain its historic character. Nearby, a 1947 annex—also adobe—now houses the communal dining area and staff quarters. Together, these form a hamlet that feels timeless, yet thoughtfully modern in spirit.

Communal spaces like the Galpón, a large open-air lounge, encourage conversation under Andean skies. Yet it’s the six campamentos that truly elevate the guest experience. Designed in 2025 and built on stilts to minimize environmental impact, each luxury tent includes a bedroom and lounge, complete with wood-burning stove, Peruvian cotton bedding, alpaca throws, and locally made furnishings. Step out onto your private deck to soak in an open-air hot tub, gaze at the stars, or simply listen to the canyon breathe.

Every element—from Arequipa-made rugs to restored family heirlooms—has been chosen not for luxury alone, but for the sense of story it carries.

DINING IN THE HEART OF THE ALTIPLANO

At Tinajani, Peru food is not just nourishment—it’s memory, identity, and ritual. Meals are prepared by local hosts using ancestral techniques and fresh produce, often grown nearby. Dishes like Pastel de Quinoa and Chairo soup provide warmth and comfort, while wood-fired Cancacho and Huatia celebrate the rich culinary traditions of the highlands.

Mornings begin with Andean cereal crepes, chapla bread, and infusions of muña or cedrón, while evenings invite guests to share stories over Andean cheese fondue, hearty meats, and a glass of local wine. And don’t miss a warm cup of api, a vibrant drink made from purple corn flour, to close the evening with tradition and sweetness.

ADVENTURE MEETS ANCESTRY

Tinajani isn’t a place to escape life—it’s a place to step into it more fully. Guests can hike to pre-Incan petroglyphs, meditate at sunrise, or explore the majestic canyon on horseback, tracing the routes once walked by migratory shepherds.

A visit to the Puyas de Raimondi forest reveals rare flora that bloom once every 30 years, while short journeys to the villages of Ayaviri and Pucara offer encounters with artisans keeping age-old traditions alive. For travelers en route from Cusco, Colca, or Lake Titicaca, Andean curates enriching stopovers that add depth to even the journey itself.

Each excursion is led by local guides who share not just facts but the myths, sciences, and cultural practices that continue to shape life in the Altiplano.

A VISION OF CONSERVATION

What truly sets Tinajani apart is its conservation-first ethos. This retreat marks Andean’s first private conservation area, a designation secured through Peru’s Ministries of Culture and Agriculture. Soon to be recognized as a national reserve, Tinajani embodies the brand’s mission to protect landscapes that are spiritually and ecologically significant.

Andean is also founding a non-governmental organization to work on regional conservation efforts and support vulnerable nearby communities. A portion of the retreat’s revenue, along with optional guest contributions, directly funds these initiatives—making every visit part of a larger mission.

TWO SEASONS, ENDLESS WONDER

Situated at 3,895 meters (12,900 ft) above sea level, Tinajani experiences two striking seasons. From May to October, the gold season brings crisp air and blue skies—ideal for hiking and stargazing. From November to April, the green season washes the canyon in rain and renewal, transforming it into a vibrant oasis of color and life.

No matter the season, Tinajani invites guests to breathe differently, walk more slowly, and listen more deeply.
