Tokyo is a city of constant motion — flashing lights, vibrant neighborhoods, and an unrelenting pulse that beats at every corner. But amid this sensory overload lies a sanctuary in the sky that redefines the meaning of luxury and serenity. Welcome to BELLUSTAR TOKYO, A Pan Pacific Hotel, where the city quite literally unfolds beneath your feet.

BELUSTAR Tokyo

During my recent trip to Tokyo, I had the distinct pleasure of visiting BELLUSTAR TOKYO — not as an overnight guest this time, but on a private hotel tour, kindly arranged by Chika Ayabe, Manager of Public Relations and Brand Management. And despite not staying overnight, I left feeling as though I had experienced something rare, something deeply transformative.

BELLUSTAR Tokyo is nestled between the 39th and 47th floors of the TOKYU KABUKICHO TOWER, a striking 225-meter skyscraper in the heart of Shinjuku. The building, designed by renowned architect Yuko Nagayama, is a visual homage to water — its fluid façade contrasting sharply with the kinetic energy of the Kabukicho district below.

Stepping into the elevator and ascending skyward, the city’s noise begins to fade, replaced by a sense of stillness. When the doors open at reception — high above Tokyo’s buzzing core — guests are greeted by minimalist interiors inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics. Subtle tones, soft textures, and architectural elegance whisper rather than shout. It’s an oasis of calm where time seems to slow.

This “reception in the sky” is one of the most breathtaking entrances I’ve ever encountered. From here, Tokyo unfolds in panoramic perfection, stretching endlessly in every direction through floor-to-ceiling windows.

Design: A Dialogue Between Earth and Sky

Every inch of BELLUSTAR Tokyo is a masterclass in balance — between modern luxury and Japanese tradition, simplicity and sophistication. The rooms, even at their most minimalist, feel incredibly spacious by Tokyo standards. Clean lines, neutral palettes, and traditional materials like wood and stone bring a sense of quietude that instantly soothes.  The hotel has a total of 97 rooms, including 20 suites. The hotel also features five penthouse suites.

Though I only toured the rooms, I was struck by how each one is designed to showcase the skyline, as if the view itself were part of the decor. Seven-meter-wide windows frame Tokyo’s sprawling metropolis — a constantly changing canvas of sunlight, neon, and night.

Of special note are the five penthouses, dubbed Sky Private Villas. These suites are not simply rooms; they are residences in the clouds, offering residential-style layouts with kitchens, living rooms, spa bathrooms, and even treatment rooms.

The largest of them all — the Sora Penthouse — is a staggering 277 square meters and features a whirlpool tub with one of the best skyline views in the city. It’s the kind of place that, frankly, feels fit for royalty.

The Experience: More Than Just a Stay

While I didn’t stay overnight, my visit to BELLUSTAR Tokyo included a look at the SPA sunya — an ethereal retreat perched on the top floor, where treatments are inspired by the elements and traditional Japanese healing philosophies. The serene spa lounge and the four treatment rooms all boast the same iconic skyline views, creating an environment where inner and outer peace meet.

The concept of “mindfulness at over 200 meters high” isn’t just a catchphrase here. It’s a feeling. It’s the way the city hums below while you soak in silence above. It’s the way the spa, the penthouses, and even the hallways seem to breathe with a rhythm of calm.

Dining: Elevated Flavours in Every Sense

Dining at BELLUSTAR is not just about taste — it’s about spectacle and setting. The hotel houses three signature restaurants and a bar, all of which focus on craftsmanship, seasonality, and impeccable presentation.

  • Restaurant Bellustar offers modern French cuisine with locally sourced ingredients. The dishes are as refined as the view they accompany.
  • Teppan Ten-yu is an intimate teppanyaki counter experience with just ten seats, where the chef’s artistry is matched only by the freshness of the ingredients.
  • Sushi JIN-E is for sushi purists — with Edomae-style offerings and pairings of sake and champagne.
  • And finally, Bar Bellustar, where cocktail artistry takes center stage. I sampled their Gold$Zipangu, a Japanese-French fusion take on the classic French 75, and the Dashi Martini — a local twist on a dirty martini that was unexpected, yet utterly brilliant.

Hospitality: Service from the Heart

What makes BELLUSTAR Tokyo shine as brightly as its view is its service philosophy, deeply rooted in the Japanese tradition of omotenashi — selfless hospitality. During my visit, every member of staff I encountered was not only polished and professional but genuinely warm and attentive.

The Pan Pacific Hotels Group, with its roots in Singapore, brings a distinctly global perspective to its service. And it shows: BELLUSTAR welcomes guests from all over the world, particularly the US, China, and Singapore, who are drawn by the brand’s reputation and consistently excellent standards.

With occupancy rates exceeding 70% annually, it’s clear that BELLUSTAR has already made a strong impression in a city overflowing with luxury accommodations.

Final Thoughts

BELLUSTAR TOKYO is not just another five-star hotel. It’s a vantage point. A place where Tokyo ceases to overwhelm and begins to inspire. Whether you’re soaking in a spa bath while watching the city sparkle at night, or sipping a handcrafted cocktail at sunset 200 meters above ground, every moment here is elevated — literally and figuratively.

Though I wasn’t a staying guest this time, the experience left a lasting imprint. And as I descended back into the heartbeat of Shinjuku, I felt both grounded and elevated — a rare balance only a place like BELLUSTAR can provide.
