Location Uga Halloowella is located 146 km from Colombo, easily accessible by helicopter or via a scenic drive. The property is a stone’s throw from key attractions, including the famous Pekoe Trail.
Nestled in the serene hills of Hatton and overlooking the picturesque Castlereagh Reservoir, this colonial-era bungalow sits at an elevation of 1,444 meters on the historic estate of Major Elton Lane, a World War I RAF pilot. Rich in history and surrounded by lush tea plantations, the property has been meticulously restored to its former splendor by Uga in collaboration with renowned Sri Lankan architect Channa Daswatte.
Accommodation The six exclusive suites at Halloowella blend old-world elegance with the luxurious comforts Uga is known for. Featuring three distinct categories—Planter’s, Pekoe, and Lane—each suite draws inspiration from the property’s colonial heritage while incorporating modern amenities:
Lane Suites (843 – 958 sq ft): Named after the original owners, Elton and Violet Lane, these expansive suites showcase Sri Lankan hospitality with a spacious living area, four-poster bed, and a cozy wood-burning fireplace, ideal for cooler highland evenings. En-suite bathrooms boast ornate claw-foot bathtubs with stunning views of the hill country.
Pekoe Suites (398 – 439 sq ft): Reflecting the nearby Pekoe Trail, these charming suites feature four-poster beds, elegant furnishings, and luxurious claw-foot bathtubs, complemented by a private garden offering breathtaking vistas of the surrounding mountains.
Planter’s Suites (416 – 444 sq ft): Inspired by the skilled planters who have tended the Halloowella estate, these well-appointed suites offer panoramic views of Castlereagh and a warm ambiance, complete with plush furnishings and modern conveniences.
