SIX SENSES DOURO VALLEY LAUNCHES PRESIDENTIAL TRAIN PACKAGE

News

Imagine turning back the clock to a more relaxed era in which to reconnect and rejuvenate while the extraordinary natural beauty of the Douro Valley rolls gently past. Six Senses is extending its inspired take on amazing experiences to offer a small series of exclusive trips on board the crown jewel of Portugal’s railway – the Presidential Train.

The train has a story or two to tell, having hosted royalty and dignitaries for over a century. Magnificently restored in 2010, it has also retained its timeless allure, giving guests the most original way to enjoy art and culture in Porto, seasonal menus, holistic wellness and top-quality wines.

“This is a vintage train with an incredible history. It brings people together, helping them to slow down and appreciate the finest food and wine, while showcasing this magical land,” says Nicolas Yarnell, general manager of Six Senses Douro Valley.

Three-day, all-inclusive experience available in May 2017 includes:

Guests receive a personal welcome at Porto Airport from a private chauffeur who stays throughout the entire journey. Dinner is at Pedro Lemos, Porto’s newest Michelin-starred restaurant, followed by an overnight stay at the InterContinental Palacio das Cardosas hotel in the historic part of town.

Day two begins with an unforgettable Presidential Train experience, departing from the beautiful São Bento Train Station. This is a three-hour journey back in time to when Douro was virtually self-sufficient and each Quinta produced its own food. The organic, locavore approach to dining inspires a four-course gourmet tasting menu, on the way to Quinta do Vesúvio to taste the region’s finest Ports. After enjoying a slow food way of life while traveling on the Presidential Train, guests will arrive at Six Senses Douro Valley feeling thoroughly refreshed and relaxed.

Day three offers the chance to indulge at Six Senses Spa Douro Valley, and lunch at DOC – Michelin-starred Chef Rui Paula’s spectacular riverside restaurant. From there, the Presidential Train experience heads back to Porto for dinner at O Gaveto, a traditional fish restaurant, followed by an overnight stay at InterContinental Palacio das Cardosas hotel.

Before the final farewell, there’s just enough time to take in a private tour of Serralves Museum, Portugal’s first modern art museum, and Casa da Música, Portugal’s most celebrated concert hall.

Price per person is EUR 5,000 or USD 5,368. For reservation, please contact reservations-dourovalley@sixsenses.com
