Located on the 19th floor, with breathtaking panoramic views of the Imperial Palace gardens, the Club Lounge at Palace Hotel Tokyo has long been a coveted sanctuary for suite and Club guests seeking both comfort and exclusivity. Now, with a refined design and expanded culinary offerings, this exclusive space becomes even more alluring—a true reflection of Tokyo’s evolution as a global capital of artful living.

A SOFTER SHADE OF SOPHISTICATION

Originally designed by London-based luxury interior firm G.A Group, the Club Lounge’s refreshed interiors embrace a more relaxed yet timelessly elegant aesthetic. Spearheading the update is Terry McGinnity, the group’s executive design director and the creative mind behind the lounge’s original concept over a decade ago.

“Guests, both business and leisure, have evolved in how they travel and how they work,” explains McGinnity. “Our aim was to make the space more casually refined while respecting the original design’s essence. Sustainability was also top of mind—we retained and reused much of the existing hard surfaces and furnishings.”

Indeed, the changes, while subtle, speak volumes. A lighter color palette brings a sense of warmth and ease to the 172-square-meter (1,851-square-foot) space. New ivory-toned chairs with sleek American-walnut frames, timber tabletops, and plush carpeting patterned with natural stone motifs infuse the lounge with a softer, nature-inspired vibe. A new reception desk, carved from raw stone, is a direct homage to the rocky moat that surrounds the neighboring Imperial Palace.

This design evolution mirrors a broader trend among luxury travelers: a desire for quiet indulgence over ostentatious opulence, and for spaces that are as welcoming as they are refined.

A CULINARY JOURNEY THROUGHOUT THE DAY

The updated design is only part of the story. Palace Hotel Tokyo has also expanded its culinary programming at the Club Lounge to align with the evolving needs of its international clientele.

From a refined Japanese breakfast—crafted with seasonal ingredients by the hotel’s flagship restaurant Wadakura and presented on artisanal wares by Aras, a celebrated brand from Ishikawa Prefecture—to a midday light-snack service that bridges breakfast and afternoon tea, the lounge now offers a continuous gastronomic experience from morning to night.

A highlight of the refresh is the new nightcap service: an elegant wind-down ritual featuring chocolates by Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse, an assortment of fine cheeses, and an array of savory and sweet nibbles. It follows the evening cocktails and canapés, when guests enjoy a curated selection of fine wines, the hotel’s signature 1-1-1 sake by Hakkaisan, and Champagne.

Cocktail lovers can also sip on exclusive creations such as the “Eureka”, a refreshing mocktail (or cocktail, if you choose) featuring green apple, tonic, and lime juice—with a hint of Blue Curaçao for a touch of flair. It’s just one of many inspired offerings crafted by Royal Bar’s skilled mixologists especially for Club Lounge guests.

And for those seeking a sweet, plant-based indulgence, the lounge now offers vegan ice cream in coconut, almond, and soy flavors throughout the day.

WHERE LUXURY MEETS LEISURE

The evolution of the Club Lounge reflects Palace Hotel Tokyo’s commitment to enhancing its guests’ experience without sacrificing the values that define it: timelessness, grace, and Japanese hospitality at its finest.

“With persistently high demand for suites and many of our international clientele booking longer stays, we enhanced the Club Lounge’s offerings to give guests more reasons to linger,” says Masaru Watanabe, Senior Managing Director & General Manager. “Design-wise, we wanted the space to maintain its elegance while feeling more inviting to today’s laid-back luxury travelers.”

Guests of the Club Lounge enjoy a comprehensive suite of privileges, including in-lounge check-in and concierge service, complimentary pressing (up to three items per stay), and access to a private meeting room. Lounge hours run from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, with clearly segmented meal presentations that invite guests to set their own rhythm—whether they’re easing into the day with a tranquil breakfast or watching the sunset with a glass of sake in hand.

Even the wellness-minded are thoughtfully catered to, with complimentary access to the evian SPA Tokyo’s bath and sauna facilities, including a women’s marble sauna and men’s dry sauna and cold plunge pool.

A NEW ERA FOR A TOKYO CLASSIC
