Like its sister hotel in the center of Lisbon, AlmaLusa Baixa/Chiado, the sustainably-minded AlmaLusa Comporta reflects the spirit of its surroundings – from natural fibers inspired by shoreline flora and fauna, to neutral furnishings that pay homage to sandy dunes nearby.

Comprising 53 rooms (31 of which are suites), the AlmaLusa Café and The RoofTop Bar, AlmaLusa Comporta will offer stylish surfers and holidaymakers a laid-back luxury escape on Portugal’s chicest coastline.

Just over an hour outside of Lisbon, the fishing and rice-producing village of Comporta offers secluded golden beaches, excellent restaurants, a treasure trove of local boutiques, scenic trails and a deep connection to nature.

The only hotel in the village of Comporta, and the only one in the area within walking distance of a beach, AlmaLusa Comporta is in a prime location for beach enthusiasts and nature lovers.

All 22 rooms – many of which offer balconies, private gardens and terraces – are individually designed with coastal-chic interiors and color palettes, in harmony with the property’s natural surroundings.

The 31 Suites, each with a small kitchen, are the perfect option for guests looking for a more intimate, private holiday but with the advantage of being able to access the hotel’s dining and leisure facilities.

Culinary

Headed up by Miguel Lopes, a charismatic 29-year-old Alentejo local with experience spanning several regional restaurants, the hotel will debut low-key, yet delicious offerings focusing on the region.

By day, guests can sample locally inspired light bites from the AlmaLusa Café or on the Pool Terrace in warmer weather. By night, The Rooftop Bar will be the spot for evening tapas, light dishes and cocktails, paired with soulful sounds courtesy of a resident DJ. During cooler months, the hotel’s Library Bar will provide cozy corners for retreat after a day’s exploration.

Each morning the Duna Room will serve a healthy breakfast, with fresh seasonal produce and home-made pastries, and picnics to go.

Wellbeing

Fitness enthusiasts can train with local HiiT and yoga instructors on the Rooftop Wellness terrace with a myriad of classes and private PT sessions available. These are complemented by the ultimate off-site running track – the surrounding beaches and dunes. A soothing Spa Suite will offer Elemental Herbology treatments all year around, with outdoor spa cabanas available on sunnier days.

Activities

Dedicated to championing the local community, AlmaLusa Comporta highlights the local neighbors as well as the area’s natural beauty through partnerships with artists. The concierge team ensures guests experience the very best of the region with tailor made experiences – from Alentejo wine tastings and guided dolphin and bird watching experiences, to trekking in the Serra of Grandola mountains.

There’s no shortage of activities: The hotel’s e-bikes or e-scooters offer a fun way to explore the landscape, and winter is considered the best time to surf the area’s swells. For nature enthusiasts, Sado estuary is a must, encompassing sandbanks, rice paddies and woodland, plus bird species including flamingos and storks. Dolphin pods are particularly plentiful in the cooler months.

The neighboring village of Melides welcomes guests with its beautiful, secluded beach, art galleries, sandstone cliffs and a deep blue lagoon which locals swim in – all year round.

Sustainability

Mindful of its carbon footprint and surrounding natural environment, AlmaLusa is seeking to be as sustainable as possible. The building itself is a careful conversion of a pre-existing building and solar panels power much of the building’s electricity. Car-free visits are encouraged with transfers available from rail and ferry terminals, with e-bikes and e-scooters on site for local travel needs. Chef Miguel and team seek out produce that’s seasonal and with nearby provenance. All suppliers have been carefully chosen based on their own commitments to the environment, even down to the laundry partner whose method uses 80% less water.
