Legend of the Seas to become a Floating Art Gallery

On Legend of the Seas, guests will step aboard more than the world’s largest cruise ship—they will enter a floating gallery where art, culture and storytelling become part of the journey itself.

Through the latest edition of Royal Caribbean’s innovative Artist Discovery Program, six emerging artists from across the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America have been selected to create exclusive works that will transform some of the ship’s most prominent public spaces into immersive cultural experiences.

The initiative represents a new chapter in the cruise line’s vision of connecting travellers with the destinations they visit long before they set foot ashore. Rather than treating art as decoration, Royal Caribbean is using it as a bridge between people, places and cultures, allowing every voyage to begin with stories inspired by the very regions guests will explore.

A New Way to Experience the Caribbean

Introduced with Icon of the Seas, the Artist Discovery Program was designed to provide talented local artists with an international platform while enriching the onboard guest experience through authentic regional creativity. Following the success of the first edition, Royal Caribbean has expanded the initiative for Legend of the Seas, welcoming artists not only from the Caribbean but also from Mexico and Central America.

The response exceeded expectations. More than 250 artists submitted portfolios, personal statements and original unpublished concepts inspired by their home countries. From this impressive collection of talent, six artists were selected and awarded grants to bring their visions to life aboard the newest Icon Class ship.

The result is a carefully curated collection of original works celebrating the vibrant landscapes, traditions, history and cultural identity of the Caribbean basin. Positioned throughout some of the vessel’s busiest and most visible locations, these installations will ensure that art becomes one of the defining experiences of every cruise.

The World’s Largest Cruise Ship as an Artistic Canvas

Legend of the Seas is already attracting global attention as the largest cruise ship ever built. Stretching nearly 365 metres (1,198 feet) in length and measuring approximately 250,800 gross tons, the Icon Class giant accommodates 5,610 guests at double occupancy and welcomes up to 7,600 passengers at maximum capacity, supported by more than 2,350 crew members.

The vessel features 20 decks, including 18 guest-accessible decks, over 2,800 staterooms, eight immersive neighbourhoods, more than 40 restaurants, bars and lounges, seven pools, spectacular entertainment venues and the record-breaking Category 6 Waterpark. While its scale alone is extraordinary, Royal Caribbean has ensured that the ship also feels deeply connected to the cultures of the regions it visits.

From the moment guests arrive in the embarkation area until they stroll through the bustling Royal Promenade or relax in the exclusive Suite Sundeck, they will encounter original works of art created exclusively for the ship—making creativity an integral part of the vacation rather than simply an added attraction.

Six Artists, Six Unique Stories

Each selected artist brings a distinct perspective shaped by the landscapes and communities they call home.

From Curaçao, multidisciplinary artist Giovanni Abath has created a striking large-scale mural accompanied by an impressive stainless-steel sculpture positioned at the entrance to the Royal Promenade. His work combines industrial materials with Caribbean symbolism, reflecting the islands’ vibrant communities and rich cultural traditions while welcoming guests into one of the ship’s liveliest entertainment districts.

Representing Trinidad and Tobago, ceramic artist Vanessa Dalla Costa transforms clay into luminous mosaic installations inspired by stained glass. Her handcrafted ceramic sculpture, displayed in the exclusive Suite Sundeck, explores the relationship between texture, colour and light, creating a peaceful artistic retreat for suite guests overlooking the ocean.

From the U.S. Virgin Islands, multidisciplinary artist Porschia Denning contributes a vibrant mural for the luxurious Suite Sundeck Lobby. Working across painting and sculpture using materials including acrylic, oil, stone and copper, Denning draws inspiration from island rhythms and the energy of nature, encouraging viewers to slow down and reconnect with their surroundings.

Puerto Rican contemporary artist Rafael Vega Feliciano has created a thought-provoking mural for the guest boarding area on Deck 2. Known for expressionist portraiture and ancestral symbolism, his artwork reflects the often-overlooked pre-colonial history of Puerto Rico and the wider Caribbean, offering travellers an emotional connection to the destinations they will soon discover.

At the centre of the Royal Promenade, Mexican visual artist Rodrigo Macias Maldonado presents a monumental mural exploring geometry, resilience and the relationship between people and the built environment. His immersive composition complements one of the busiest gathering places onboard, encouraging guests to pause and appreciate the dialogue between architecture and art.

Completing the collection is Alexander Lopez Ryliouk from Costa Rica, whose bold mural transforms the embarkation area into an unforgettable first impression. Bursting with vibrant colours and dynamic movement, his artwork immediately establishes the joyful atmosphere that defines a Royal Caribbean holiday.

Where Entertainment Meets Culture

Legend of the Seas is already expected to become one of the most entertainment-rich cruise ships ever launched. Guests can enjoy spectacular Broadway-style productions, breathtaking AquaTheater performances featuring Olympic-level divers and aerial acrobats, world-famous ice skating shows, live music venues, comedy acts, themed parties, immersive nightlife and family entertainment around the clock.

The addition of original public art creates another layer to this already remarkable experience. Rather than simply moving between restaurants, theatres and attractions, guests will continuously encounter works that tell the stories of the Caribbean and Central America, making every walk through the ship an opportunity for discovery.

Extending the Experience Beyond the Ship

Royal Caribbean’s commitment to regional artists extends beyond Legend of the Seas itself. The Artist Discovery Program also plays a central role at Royal Beach Club Paradise Island in Nassau, where the cruise line has commissioned 11 Bahamian artists to create works displayed across 25 locations throughout the all-inclusive beachfront destination.

This seamless connection between ship and shore allows travellers to experience authentic local creativity both onboard and ashore, reinforcing Royal Caribbean’s growing focus on meaningful cultural engagement alongside world-class entertainment.

Sailing Into a New Era

Beginning in July 2026, Legend of the Seas will spend her inaugural season sailing seven-night Western Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona and Civitavecchia, providing guests with the opportunity to experience Europe aboard the newest Icon Class masterpiece. Later in the year, the ship will reposition to Fort Lauderdale, offering six-night Western Caribbean and eight-night Southern Caribbean voyages that include destinations such as Willemstad, Roatán, and Royal Caribbean’s award-winning private island destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

With its record-breaking size, extraordinary entertainment, immersive neighbourhoods and now an inspiring celebration of Caribbean creativity, Legend of the Seas demonstrates that the future of cruising is about far more than reaching spectacular destinations.
