Fabrizio Casiraghi

Opened in April 2024, Grand Hotel Bellevue marks the British debut of Lignée, the French hotel group known for reinterpreting historic buildings with artful precision. For this project, Lignée tapped none other than Fabrizio Casiraghi—the Paris-based architect whose name is fast becoming synonymous with modern elegance. The result? A five-storey Victorian townhouse transformed into a sophisticated sanctuary, where vintage romance meets fresh creativity.

From Paris to Paddington: A Designer’s Dream

With roots in Belle Époque refinement and a forward-looking eye for contrast, Casiraghi’s vision brings Grand Hotel Bellevue to life in an effortlessly cohesive way. Throughout the property, you’ll find a dialogue between old and new, restraint and whimsy, calm and colour.

Upon entering the hotel, guests are welcomed by a lobby that feels more like a private English drawing room than a reception space. Custom furnishings are mixed with hand-picked antiques, while the rich lacquered wood detailing lends a sense of heritage. But then comes the twist: bold orange walls add a jolt of modernity, transforming the space from stately to spirited.

This tension between classical comfort and avant-garde flair is a defining motif. “We wanted the hotel to feel warm and familiar, yet unexpected,” Casiraghi has said of his design. “The idea was to preserve the soul of the townhouse, but give it an identity that is playful and unmistakably contemporary.”

Rooms with Personality—and Purpose

The 60 rooms and suites at Grand Hotel Bellevue continue this visual narrative, combining muted luxury with clever, characterful design. Every room features bespoke furnishings in dark, polished wood, paired with soft fabrics and vintage-inspired details that call to mind classic English interiors. Think tailored curtains, matching carpets, and crisp linens—all in earthy tones punctuated by surprising dashes of colour.

Bathrooms, by contrast, play a bolder hand. Sleek tiled walls come in a rotation of jewel-toned greens, oranges, and blues, offering a pop-art vibrancy that’s chic rather than showy.

Room categories cater to a range of travelers, from solo adventurers to couples and small families. The Cabin Rooms—inspired by luxury boat cabins—offer a compact yet cleverly designed space, ideal for short stays. The Classic Rooms are calm, refined havens, while Superior Rooms take full advantage of the building’s high ceilings and Victorian windows, filling the space with natural light.

Those looking for an indulgent experience can opt for the Deluxe Rooms, featuring traditional sash windows and super king-size beds. And for families or guests staying longer, the Executive Rooms offer spacious layouts with the flexibility to accommodate up to three guests.

The Pondicherry Bar: A Tale in Tapestry

If the rooms are a study in quiet elegance, the Pondicherry Bar is where the hotel truly comes alive. Bold, eclectic, and unforgettable, this intimate bar space is unlike anything else in Paddington—if not London.

Bright yellow walls set a striking tone, but the true focal point is the bespoke tapestry that wraps around the room like a vivid mural. Designed in collaboration with acclaimed American fashion designer Emily Bode, the tapestry draws on the British colonial history with India. Deep blue backgrounds host a vibrant menagerie of embroidered elephants, tigers, and figures in traditional South Asian dress, weaving a story of cultural interplay and travel.

This sense of storytelling is central to the Bellevue experience. Here, the past is never static. It’s always in dialogue with the present, whether through visual contrasts or the international influences that shape the hotel’s identity.

The Pondicherry Bar is a destination in itself—perfect for a late-night cocktail, a quiet afternoon tipple, or simply soaking in the layered aesthetic that defines the entire property. Drinks lean toward the classic, with inventive nods to Anglo-Indian flavours that reflect the bar’s namesake region.
