Eréma Milos Opens: A New All-Suite Retreat
Empiria Group announces the opening of Eréma, a Member of Design Hotels, a 41-suite hotel at Cape Chalaka on the southeastern coast of Milos. The opening marks the group’s arrival on the island, adding Milos to a Cycladic portfolio that already includes properties in Santorini and Paros.
Milos has always stood apart from the familiar image of the Cyclades. Its coastline is sculpted by volcanic forces, its beaches shift dramatically in colour and texture, and its ancient mineral wealth has influenced the island’s identity for thousands of years. Now, this distinctive landscape has inspired Eréma Milos, a new all-suite retreat from Empiria Group that translates the island’s geology, light and elemental beauty into a contemporary hospitality experience.
The arrival of Eréma marks a significant new chapter for Empiria Group, expanding its Cycladic portfolio with a property designed specifically around the character of Milos.
“Milos brings a different dimension to our Cycladic portfolio,” said Kalia Konstantinidou, Group Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Empiria Group. “I became fascinated by the island’s geology and the role its minerals have played in shaping both the landscape and its identity. There is a remarkable relationship between the terrain, the light and the experience of being there. Eréma was conceived as a response to that environment, translating those qualities into a hospitality experience that could only belong to Milos.”
Architecture Inspired by Earth and Light
The architecture was created by Aristides Dallas Architects and Micromega Architecture & Strategies, with interiors conceived by Athens-based studio ID Laboratorium. Together, they have developed a visual language that takes its cues from the island’s natural contours rather than imposing an unrelated aesthetic upon them.
Stone walls echo Milos’s rugged terrain, while curved architectural forms appear to follow the shape of the land. Throughout the day, sunlight moves across the interiors, subtly altering the mood of the spaces from the gentle clarity of morning to the warmer tones of sunset.
Materials were selected to reinforce this connection. Volcanic stone, marble and soft, earth-inspired colours create an atmosphere that feels calm, tactile and grounded. Warm timber, natural stone surfaces and linen textiles add depth, while the bathrooms are clad in Naxian marble.
Most of the furniture and decorative pieces were designed especially for Eréma and crafted by local artisans. Their forms reflect the island’s landscapes and traditional craftsmanship, helping to establish a sense of place that extends beyond conventional Cycladic minimalism.
The property has also been designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, positioning it among the more environmentally conscious hospitality developments in the Aegean. Energy-efficient systems, responsibly sourced materials, water-conservation measures and landscaping using native species have been integrated throughout the resort.
Eréma is also home to the third Cycladic boutique from Anthologist, the Athens-based design and cultural brand. Its curated selection of textiles, crafted objects and design pieces continues the hotel’s material narrative, offering guests another point of connection with Greek creativity and craftsmanship.
Forty-One Suites with Private Pools
All 41 accommodations at Eréma are suites, and each comes with its own private pool and panoramic views of the Aegean Sea. The suites are arranged across four categories, ranging from intimate one-bedroom retreats to spacious two-bedroom residences suited to families or groups of friends.
The 10 Element Suites offer 35 square metres of interior space and feature a king-size bed, rainfall shower and private terrace. Outside, guests have access to sunbeds, an open-air dining area and a private pool. Three Drift Suites provide a more generous 45-square-metre layout, combining a king-size bedroom with a separate living area. Their terraces include private pools, sunbeds and outdoor dining spaces overlooking the island scenery.
The 23 Horizon Suites form the property’s largest accommodation category. Each offers 45 square metres of interior space, a king bedroom, a separate living area and a private terrace with a pool and expansive sea views.
For guests requiring additional space, the five Unity Suites extend across 75 square metres. These two-bedroom suites include two king-size bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, as well as a separate living area and an expansive outdoor terrace with a private pool.
Nightly rates range from approximately €700 for an Element Suite to €1,300 for a Unity Suite, depending on travel dates.
A Culinary Journey from Sunrise to Sunset
Greek chef Yiannis Kioroglou, Empiria Group’s Culinary Director, oversees the dining experience at Eréma. His “Medite-Grecian” philosophy combines authentic local flavours with modern technique and a deep respect for seasonal ingredients.
Kioroglou first joined Empiria Group for the 2022 opening of Parostia at Cosme in Paros. At Eréma, his menus place the traditions and produce of Milos within a broader Mediterranean context.
Halaka, the resort’s sunrise restaurant, takes its name from the surrounding landscape. Positioned beside the expansive infinity pool, it offers panoramic sea views and an all-day menu focused on seasonal Cycladic ingredients.
Signature dishes include a Cycladic salad prepared with tomatoes, Paros capers and soft Milos cheese. Guests can also try ladenia, the island’s traditional flatbread topped with tomato and local cheese, or a Milos pasta dish served with mushrooms.
As the sun begins to descend, attention moves to Akiton, named after one of the ancient names of Milos. The restaurant’s evening menu includes grilled Milos manouri cheese with mint and pomegranate, scorpionfish giouvarlákia served in a bouillabaisse sauce and Milos-style seafood lasagna with saffron. Dessert might take the form of a rum-scented revani, a traditional semolina cake reinterpreted for the setting.
Nearby, Akiton Bar extends the evening with cocktails informed by Greek ingredients and Mediterranean flavours. Tears of Chios combines Skinos mastiha liqueur with basil and grapes, while The Mad Lover brings together reposado tequila, chilli and cilantro.
Circe Bar, an open-air venue named after the mythological daughter of Helios, draws inspiration from nature and ritual. Alongside light snacks, the menu includes cocktails such as the Summer of Matador, made with tequila, watermelon and pineapple, and a Limone & Basilico spritz. A complete selection of alcohol-free drinks and smoothies is also available.
Mineral-Inspired Wellness at Elios Spa
Wellbeing at Eréma is centred around Elios Spa, whose name references the Greek word for the sun. The spa’s philosophy is closely connected to the radiant light and mineral character of Milos.
Natural light fills the serene interiors, which include three treatment rooms and an outdoor heated pool. The menu encompasses massages, facials and body treatments using products from Swiss cellular-skincare specialist Swissline by Dermalab.
Treatments range from a deep-tissue massage incorporating locally sourced rosemary and ginger oils to a volcanic mineral wrap combining Dead Sea mud with volcanic minerals. Additional programmes include lymphatic drainage, targeted facials and rituals developed for couples, expectant mothers and younger guests.
The spa’s centrepiece is Eréma Earth and Light, a 120-minute signature treatment inspired by the island’s mineral richness and extraordinary luminosity. The ritual combines precious minerals with the ancient practice of gua sha, bringing together a sculpting facial, relaxing body massage and dedicated eye treatment.
Beyond the spa, guests can swim in the resort’s large infinity pool while looking across the open Aegean horizon. A bright, fully equipped fitness centre remains accessible 24 hours a day.
Discovering the Wild Character of Milos
Eréma’s guest experiences extend beyond the property, drawing travellers into the landscapes, traditions and stories of Milos.
Sea excursions reveal hidden coves and the spectacular white volcanic formations of Kleftiko, an extraordinary coastal landmark accessible only by boat. Guests can also begin the day at Sarakiniko, where sunrise illuminates the beach’s lunar-like white rock formations.
On land, scenic hikes and off-road drives explore the island’s volcanic terrain, while private geological tours offer insight into the forces and minerals that have shaped Milos. Cultural itineraries visit Plaka, the island’s hilltop capital, as well as the colourful syrmata boathouses of Klima and ancient sites that trace several millennia of human history.
More intimate experiences include a woodcarving workshop held inside a 300-year-old Cycladic house and a local cooking class built around the island’s produce and culinary traditions.
Through Kinship, Empiria Group’s family programme, these experiences are also adapted for younger travellers, encouraging families to discover the island together.
