You’ve built communication strategies for some of the most iconic luxury hotels in Thailand — from Conrad Bangkok to InterContinental Khao Yai Resort, Capella Bangkok, W Koh Samui and Conrad Koh Samui. How has your definition of luxury evolved throughout your career?

Luxury, to me, has always been about creating meaningful experiences — but over the years, my definition has evolved from opulence and exclusivity to authenticity and emotional resonance.

Early in my career, luxury was often defined by grandeur: lavish interiors, impeccable service and rare amenities in my opinion. While these elements remain important, today’s luxury traveler seeks something deeper — a sense of connection, purpose and personalization. Working with iconic properties has taught me that true luxury lies in storytelling and cultural relevance. It’s about curating moments that reflect the soul of a destination, whether through locally inspired design, sustainable practices or immersive guest experiences.

Luxury is no longer just about what you see — it’s about how you feel. As a communicator, our role is to translate that feeling into narratives that resonate across cultures and generations.

Having been part of several pre-opening teams at InterContinental Khao Yai Resort and Capella Bangkok, what’s the key to crafting a brand voice before the property even welcomes its first guest?

Crafting a brand voice before a hotel opens is one of the most exciting and important parts of the journey. It’s about setting the tone for how the property will be perceived — not just on opening day, but for years to come.  At InterContinental Khao Yai Resort and Capella Bangkok, we started by deeply understanding the story behind each location. What makes the destination unique? What emotions do we want guests to feel when they stay there?

From there, we build a voice that reflects the property’s personality — whether it’s refined and tranquil, bold and playful, or rooted in heritage and nature. It’s not just about choosing the right words; it’s about creating a consistent feeling across every touchpoint, from social media and press releases to signage and guest communications.

The key is to be intentional and authentic. Even before the first guest arrives, the brand voice should already be painting a clear picture of the experience they can expect. It’s about building anticipation, trust and emotional connection — so that when the doors finally open, guests feel like they already know the place.

What are the biggest lessons you’ve learned from launching high-end brands in such diverse environments — from urban Bangkok to destinations like Koh Samui and Khao Yai?

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from launching luxury brands in such diverse settings — from the vibrant energy of Bangkok to the serene landscapes of Koh Samui and the nostalgic charm of Khao Yai — is that context is everything. Each destination has its own rhythm, culture and guest expectations. And the brand must adapt while staying true to its core identity.

In urban environments like Bangkok, guests often seek sophistication, innovation and seamless service. In contrast, destinations like Koh Samui or Khao Yai invite a slower pace, where guests value nature, wellness and emotional connection. Understanding these nuances is key to shaping experiences that feel both luxurious and locally grounded. Another important lesson is the power of collaboration. Working closely with local communities, designers and storytellers helps bring authenticity to the brand. It’s not about copying what works elsewhere — it’s about listening, learning and creating something that feels right for that specific place. That’s what makes a brand truly resonate with its guests.

Capella Bangkok was named in 2024 World’s No. 1 Hotel by World’s Best 50 — a remarkable recognition. What made that project stand out from a communications and brand storytelling perspective?

Their recognition as the World’s No. 1 Hotel by the World’s 50 Best Hotels in 2024 was truly remarkable — and even though the award came after I had moved on, I’m incredibly proud to have been part of the founding team that opened this extraordinary property. Being involved from the pre-opening stage gave me the opportunity to help shape the brand’s voice and narrative from the ground up.

What made this project stand out from a communications and storytelling perspective was the clarity of vision and the commitment to authenticity. From the beginning, we focused on highlighting the hotel’s riverside location, its deep connection to Thai culture and heritage and the personalized guest experiences that set it apart. Every detail — from the tone of our messaging to the way we introduced our culinary and wellness concepts — was crafted to reflect a sense of understated elegance and emotional warmth.

Capella Bangkok wasn’t just launching a hotel; it was introducing a new kind of luxury to the city — one that felt intimate, curated and deeply rooted in place. That foundation, built during the pre-opening phase, helped the brand resonate with guests and critics alike, and I’m honored to have played a role in its early success.

How do you build anticipation and media buzz for a pre-opening without overselling?

Building anticipation for any hotel opening is all about striking the right balance — creating excitement without making promises that can’t be delivered. The key is to focus on storytelling rather than selling. During pre-opening phases, we aim to highlight the vision, the inspiration behind the design and the unique experiences guests can look forward to, without revealing everything at once.

It’s important to be strategic with timing and messaging. We build momentum gradually — starting with behind-the-scenes content, engaging media previews and crafted teasers that spark curiosity. Collaborating with trusted media and influencers also helps shape authentic narratives that feel credible and aligned with the brand.

Ultimately, it’s about setting expectations that are aspirational yet grounded. When the first guests arrive, they should feel like the experience matches — or even exceeds — what they’ve been anticipating. That’s when the buzz turns into lasting brand loyalty.

The pandemic reshaped how people experience luxury travel. How did it challenge the way hotels communicate with guests and media, reported to Thailand?

The pandemic fundamentally changed how people engage with luxury travel, and it also reshaped how hotels communicate — especially in a market like Thailand, where hospitality is deeply rooted in warmth and personal connection. During that time, communication had to become more empathetic, transparent and responsive. Guests were looking for reassurance, not just inspiration.

We shifted from aspirational messaging to more informative and supportive content — focusing on health and safety protocols, flexible booking policies and real-time updates. It was also a moment to strengthen relationships with media and audiences by being honest, human and present.

Another key shift was the rise of digital engagement. With travel restrictions in place, we had to find new ways to stay connected — through virtual experiences, social media storytelling and content that brought the destination to life from afar. The challenge was to remain relevant without overselling and to communicate with sensitivity while still keeping the brand’s spirit alive.

What lasting shifts have you observed in traveler behavior since 2020 — and how have marketing strategies adapted to meet those new expectations?

Since 2020, traveler behavior has shifted in meaningful and lasting ways. Guests are now more intentional with their choices — they seek experiences that are not only luxurious, but also purposeful, safe and emotionally enriching. There’s a stronger focus on wellness, sustainability, personalization and meaningful connections with local culture.

In response, marketing strategies have had to evolve. It’s no longer just about showcasing beautiful spaces — it’s about telling stories that reflect values, authenticity and relevance. We’ve moved toward more targeted, experience-driven content, with an emphasis on flexibility, transparency and emotional engagement.

Digital platforms have also become more central than ever. Travelers expect real-time communication, personalized recommendations and seamless online experiences. As marketers, we’ve adapted by listening more closely to guest feedback, using data to guide decisions and crafting messages that speak to what matters most to today’s luxury traveler.”

Sustainability is no longer optional in luxury hospitality. How can communication teams make eco-conscious practices aspirational rather than obligatory?

Sustainability has become a core expectation in luxury hospitality, but the way we communicate it makes all the difference. Rather than presenting eco-conscious practices as obligations, we have the opportunity to position them as part of the luxury experience — thoughtful, inspiring and forward-thinking.

The key is to highlight the purpose and the positive impact behind each initiative. Whether it’s sourcing locally, reducing waste or supporting community projects, we frame these efforts as enhancements to the guest journey — not compromises. Storytelling plays a vital role here. When we share the stories of local artisans, environmental partnerships or meaningful guest contributions, sustainability becomes aspirational and emotionally engaging.

Luxury today is about values as much as aesthetics. Guests want to feel that their choices matter and when sustainability is communicated with authenticity and creativity, it becomes a powerful part of the brand narrative.

How do you ensure that sustainability messages go beyond “greenwashing” and genuinely resonate with discerning luxury travelers?

To ensure sustainability messaging genuinely resonates — and doesn’t fall into the trap of greenwashing — it must be rooted in transparency, authenticity and measurable impact. Discerning luxury travelers are well-informed and value substance over slogans. They want to see real commitments, not just marketing claims.

As communicators, our role is to tell the full story: why a sustainability initiative matters, how it’s implemented and what results it’s delivering. We highlight the people behind the efforts — from local artisans to environmental partners — and show how these practices enhance the guest experience rather than limit it.

It’s also important to communicate with humility and clarity. We don’t overstate; we inform, educate and invite guests to be part of the journey. When sustainability is presented as a shared value and a thoughtful choice, it becomes a meaningful part of the luxury narrative.

What’s the most rewarding campaign or moment of your career so far — the one that still makes you proud when you look back?

It’s difficult to choose just one, but one of the most rewarding moments in my career was being part of the pre-opening team at Capella Bangkok. Helping to shape the brand’s voice and communications strategy from the ground up — and seeing it evolve into one of the world’s most celebrated hotels — was incredibly fulfilling. I still feel proud to have played a role in laying the foundation for that success.

Another campaign that stands out is the launch of Conrad Bangkok’s rooftop apiary project — the first of its kind in Bangkok. It was more than just a sustainability initiative; it was a statement about urban biodiversity and responsible luxury. Communicating this story allowed us to engage guests and media in a fresh, unexpected way, showing that luxury hospitality can lead with purpose and innovation.

These moments stay with me because they reflect the impact of thoughtful communication — not just in driving awareness, but in creating lasting emotional connections.

What advice would you give to young professionals who want to build a career in luxury brand communications?

My advice to young professionals looking to build a career in luxury brand communications is to start by truly understanding what luxury means today — it’s no longer just about exclusivity or aesthetics, but about emotional connection, authenticity and purpose. The most successful communicators in this space are those who can tell stories that resonate deeply and reflect the values of both the brand and the audience.

Be curious and stay close to the guest perspective. Listen actively, observe trends and always ask yourself how a message will make someone feel. Luxury communication is about nuance — the tone, the timing, the cultural sensitivity — and mastering that takes both experience and empathy.

Also, never underestimate the importance of collaboration. Work closely with operations, design, culinary and sustainability teams. The more you understand the full guest journey, the more meaningful your storytelling will be.

And finally, stay adaptable. The industry is constantly evolving, and those who embrace change with creativity and integrity will always stand out.

Looking ahead, what do you believe will define the next era of luxury travel?

The next era of luxury travel will be defined by deeper personalization, purpose-driven experiences and a stronger connection to place and people. Travelers are increasingly seeking more than just comfort and exclusivity — they want authenticity, emotional resonance and a sense of impact.

We’ll see luxury evolve into something more intuitive and meaningful. Technology will play a role in enhancing personalization, but the human touch will remain essential. Sustainability will no longer be a differentiator — it will be expected. And wellness, in its broadest sense, will continue to shape how people choose where and how they travel.

For brands, the challenge and opportunity lie in crafting experiences that are not only luxurious but also culturally rich, socially responsible and emotionally engaging. The future of luxury travel will be less about what you consume, and more about what you connect with — and how it makes you feel long after the journey ends.

And from my own experience as a solo traveler, I believe we’ll see more individuals seeking freedom to explore destinations on their own terms — with the desire to connect with new people and engage meaningfully with local communities. Communicators who understand this mindset will be well-positioned to craft stories and experiences that truly resonate.

Do you think the idea of “luxury” will continue to mean indulgence — or is it shifting toward something more emotional and sustainable?

I believe the concept of “luxury” is evolving beyond mere indulgence. While traditional luxury emphasized opulence and extravagance, today’s discerning travelers increasingly seek experiences that are meaningful, authentic and sustainable.

Luxury now encompasses emotional connections—such as a sense of well-being, personalized service and cultural immersion—while also prioritizing responsible practices that respect the environment and local communities. This shift reflects a deeper awareness and desire for experiences that not only pamper but also enrich and inspire, ensuring that luxury remains relevant and impactful in the years to come.

In today’s digital landscape, influencer collaborations have become an integral part of brand communication. To what extent do you believe in the power of influencers, and how do you measure their impact from a marketing and ROI perspective?

Influencer collaborations have become a powerful tool in brand communication — not just for reach, but for storytelling. I believe in their potential when partnerships are thoughtfully curated and aligned with the brand’s values. It’s not about numbers alone; it’s about authenticity, relevance and the ability to inspire trust among discerning audiences.

In the luxury space, influencers who can convey emotional depth, cultural appreciation and a genuine connection to the destination tend to have the greatest impact. Their content should feel organic, aspirational and reflective of the brand’s identity — not transactional.

From a marketing and ROI perspective, we look beyond vanity metrics. Engagement quality, content longevity, audience sentiment and conversion behaviors — such as bookings, inquiries or brand mentions — are key indicators. We also assess how well the collaboration enhances brand perception and contributes to long-term loyalty.

Ultimately, influencer marketing in luxury hospitality is most effective when it’s treated as a strategic partnership, not just a promotional tactic. When done right, it becomes a meaningful extension of the brand’s voice and values.

From a personal standpoint, which hotel in the world holds a special place in your heart, and what makes it stand out to you?

From a personal standpoint, two hotels in Thailand hold a very special place in my heart — each for different reasons. The first iFour Seasons Resort Koh Samui, a resort I visited and continue to admire for its exceptional ability to blend barefoot luxury with authentic Thai hospitality. Nestled in a secluded bay, the resort offers a perfect balance of privacy, natural beauty and cultural richness. I found it to be a place where I could truly disconnect, explore freely and connect meaningfully with both the destination and the people. It’s a resort that understands how to make luxury feel personal and effortless.

The second is Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai, where I began my career in luxury hospitality in 2004. Although the property has since closed, it remains deeply meaningful to me. The resort was a masterpiece of design and storytelling — inspired by Lanna heritage and built with extraordinary attention to detail. Working there taught me the importance of cultural authenticity, emotional engagement and the power of place in shaping guest experiences. It was more than a hotel; it was a living narrative, and being part of its journey was a privilege that continues to influence how I approach brand communication today.”

What is your favorite city or travel destination, and why does it continue to inspire you both personally and professionally?

Japan is, without a doubt, my favorite travel destination — both personally and professionally. It continues to inspire me because of its people, culture, food and lifestyle. There’s a quiet elegance and intentionality in everything — from the way meals are prepared to how spaces are designed and how hospitality is delivered. It’s a country where tradition and innovation coexist beautifully and that balance is something I deeply admire.

As a solo traveler, I find Japan especially rewarding. It offers the freedom to explore at your own pace, while also providing countless opportunities to connect with local communities and discover meaningful cultural experiences. Whether it’s a quiet moment in a neighborhood café, a conversation with a local artisan or a walk through a centuries-old temple, every encounter feels thoughtful and enriching.

Professionally, Japan sets a benchmark for service excellence and brand storytelling. The attention to detail, the respect for heritage and the seamless integration of design and experience are all qualities that continue to influence how I approach luxury brand communications. It’s a destination that reminds me that true luxury lies in simplicity, sincerity and emotional depth.”

When you travel for leisure, what elements or details do you tend to observe in other hotels — perhaps out of professional curiosity?

When I travel for leisure, I naturally observe various elements of hotel operations through the lens of my professional background in marketing communications. I pay close attention to how the brand is expressed across touchpoints—from signage and collateral to digital presence and guest interactions. I also take note of the storytelling embedded in the guest experience, whether through design, service rituals or local cultural integration.

Additionally, I observe how hotels differentiate themselves in competitive markets, particularly through their positioning, partnerships and sustainability practices. The consistency of brand messaging, the creativity in guest engagement and the emotional resonance of the experience are all details that often inspire ideas or reflections relevant to my own work.

Finally, could you name three hotels that you dream of experiencing in the near future, and what draws you to them?

There are several hotels I aspire to experience in the near future, each offering a distinct perspective on hospitality and brand storytelling. Among them, these three stand out:

Aman Tokyo – I’m drawn to its serene, minimalist design and the way it harmonizes traditional Japanese elements with contemporary luxury. Aman’s philosophy of creating peaceful sanctuaries resonates deeply with me, especially in a dynamic city like Tokyo.

Rosewood Hong Kong – Recently named the No. 1 hotel in The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025, Rosewood Hong Kong exemplifies modern luxury with a strong sense of place. I’m particularly intrigued by its art curation, culinary offerings and how it integrates local culture into the guest experience.
